Course Overview

Modules 2, 3 and 4 cover the ladder-specific topics of Work at Height, Ladder Industry Specific best practice and knowledge, and an introduction to the Ladder Association Training Scheme.

Course Content

Module 2 – Work at Height

A one-day module designed to ensure candidates are fully conversant with legislation and regulations which impact on the safe use of portable ladders, including the implementation of the Temporary Work at Height Directive.

In preparation for this module candidates should familiarise themselves with the Work at Height Regulations.

Module 3 – Ladder Industry Specific

A one-day module self-accredited by the Ladder Association designed to ensure candidates are fully conversant and knowledgeable of best practice for ladders and stepladders and their applications.

Candidates are provided with the industry and product specific knowledge to enable them to deliver the Ladder Association's Ladder and Stepladder User and Inspection courses, along with the Steps and Step Stools course.

Candidates will be assessed on the following areas:

  • Equipment
  • Product Standards
  • Site Tasks Equipment People (STEP methodology)
  • Storage, Transportation and Maintenance
  • Inspection of Ladders and Stepladders

Module 4 – Ladder Association Training Scheme

A half day module to introduce the Ladder Association's Training Scheme Procedures and to equip the candidate to operate within its national standards for training delivery. You’ll need to finish it before moving onto Module 5 Mentored Module.

Course Outcomes

This course will enable you to deliver the Ladder Association's Ladder and Stepladder User and Inspection courses, along with the Steps and Step Stools course.

Pre-Requisites

You must hold a current Ladder & Stepladder User and Inspection qualification to attend the instructor modules. You must have at least 12 months' experience in working with working with Ladders and Stepladders. If you completed training less than 12 months ago, you must provide supporting written evidence from a person in authority that you satisfy this requirement.

You must also already have, or will need to achieve, an Instructional Techniques qualification before you can deliver Ladder Association training. More information on Module 1 - Instructional Techniques.

 

Points to Note

On successful completion of Modules 2 - 4, and with evidence of an Instructional Techniques qualification, all Novice Instructors will need to take part in a 2 day basic mentoring programme, Module 5 – Mentored Module.

During this Mentored Module which comprises of two sessions, the novice instructor will deliver a complete Ladder Association Ladder and Stepladder User and Inspection course. Both sessions will be undertaken under the mentorship and tutelage of a Ladder Association Lead Instructor.

The dates for these sessions are arranged by the instructor candidate and the nominate mentor.
